INTRODUCTION
New life
- The resurrection of Christ assures us that God has accepted Christ's sacrifice for our sins.
- The resurrection of Christ assures us that there is life after death.
- The resurrection of Christ assures us that Christ is with us in the present.
- The resurrection of Christ assures us that we have an advocate in heaven.
- The resurrection of Christ assures us that we have the necessary power to live as God requires.
New life of marriage - working like I was a
bachelor. I was different, but I
didn't live differently.
Already/Not yet
The cross with our notes from last week- not
yet.
New notes- already
- A New Hope
“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly
await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables
him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so
that they will be like his glorious body.”
Philippians 3:20-21 NIV
We are in our old bodies and yet . . .
- The Limitations of the Flesh
“Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no
longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. So I find this law
at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my
inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging
war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at
work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that
is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our
Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful
nature a slave to the law of sin.”
Romans
7:20-25 NIV
- We Must Please God Either Way
"Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what
we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we
shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him
purify themselves, just as he is pure.”
1 John 3:2-3
NIV
“For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is
destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by
human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly
dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. For while we
are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be
unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is
mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now the one who has fashioned us for this
very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what
is to come. Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at
home in the body we are away from the Lord. For we live by faith, not by sight.
We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home
with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in
the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of
Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while
in the body, whether good or bad.”
2 Corinthians
5:1-10 NIV

- A New Hope Indeed
“But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With
what kind of body will they come?” How foolish! What you sow does not come to
life unless it dies. When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but
just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. But God gives it a body as
he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. Not all flesh
is the same: People have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another
and fish another. There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies;
but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the
earthly bodies is another. The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another
and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor. So will it be
with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is
raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown
in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a
spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. So
it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a
life-giving spirit. The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after
that the spiritual. The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man
is of heaven. As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as
is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven. And just as we have
borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly
man. I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit
the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Listen, I
tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a
flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will
sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the
perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with
immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the
mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death
has been swallowed up in victory.” “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O
death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the
law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus
Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move
you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that
your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
1 Corinthians
15:35-58 NIV
CONCLUSION
"He had the vision to understand that crucifixion was
a slow death and behavior was often a slow change."

Live like you are already there.
CHALLENGE
“Their destiny is destruction, their god is their
stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly
things.”
Philippians 3:19 NIV
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set
your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your
life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears,
then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever
belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires
and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You
used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also
rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and
filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken
off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is
being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Here there is no Gentile
or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but
Christ is all, and is in all. Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly
loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and
patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a
grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these
virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the
peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were
called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you
richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms,
hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord
Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Colossians 3:1-17 NIV
