As we worship together "from house to house," we gather because we are committed to the ancient idea of honoring God with our communal presence. In the age of Covid-19, we must be creative in order to keep one another safe. As you worship, join together in the unity of the Spirit.
If you cannot join us this Sunday, we invite you to sing along with the worship videos. We encourage you to take the Lord’s Supper. In this way, we can take communion together even though we are apart. Pray for one another. Watch my message WE ARE THE CHURCH: Where the Commitment is Ancient. Respond to the invitation. Enjoy the bonus video.
WORSHIP
COMMUNION
Read Psalm 103:13 NIV, "As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him." Here is a possible communion prayer to say before you take the bread and the juice, "Father, we honor you. We are blessed to be your children. We are comforted and saved by your compassionate ways. We are grateful for the sacrifice of your Son that allows us to call you, 'Father.' In Jesus' name, amen."
Take the Lord's Supper.
PRAYER
Pray for a halt to the second wave of Covid-19 that is lurching across our nation. Pray for loving decisions that honor those that are most vulnerable. Pray for the development of a vaccine that can keep us safe.
MESSAGE
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”
Acts 2:42-47 NIV
CHALLENGE
Score yourself from 1 to 5 on how well you adhere to each of the 4 ancient devotions of Acts 2:42. Write down the words Christ and Lord and circle the ancient idea of Christ you accept more freely. Write down why the other one is more difficult to accept.
INVITATION
It is our custom to offer an "invitation" following the preaching of the Word at Kenwood Church. You may want to follow Jesus. You may want to proclaim your faith. You may want to repent (stop doing ungodly things and start doing Godly things). Perhaps you want to be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. If you have been moved by the Holy Spirit to make a decision in your life, I encourage you to speak with me via phone (248-476-8222) or an email (toddlackie@kenwoodchurch.org). I would be honored to speak with you about what God is doing in your life and try to connect you with a community of faith in your area.
